Dermal Fillers & Sculptra
Questions
Questions and Answers
What does the procedure involve?
The procedure involves injecting into the skin a small volume of a natural compound called hyaluronic acid using a very fine needle.
Fillers add volume to your skin without affecting your natural expression. It is non-permanent and is absorbed naturally over time - it's your choice when to have further treatment to maintain the effect.
The leading dermal filler substance used by most UK practitioners are hyaluronic acid based products. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance found in the spaces between the cells of body tissues in all animals. It has already been used widely in general medicine to help eye surgeons perform cataract operations, and for injection into arthritic joints to aid movement. It is estimated that over 30 million people around the world have been treated with some form of hyaluronic acid.
Restylane is a well known brand of hyaluronic acid that has been available in the UK for over 10 years. We use this product in conjunction with other newer brands including juvederm and Hydrafill.
Restylane, juvederm and Hydrafill and are all made from non-animal sources and are available in different versions each having slightly different properties tailored exactly to a specific use.
How long does the effect last for?
Hyaluronic Acid is a natural compound that is broken down within the skin. The effects of treatment can last between 4 and 9 months depending on the site treated and your lifestyle. Smoking and excessive alcohol intake both increase the rate at which hyaluronic acid is broken down.
Does it hurt, and what can go wrong?
Numbing cream or injections are usually given in the area requiring treatment to make the procedure as comfortable as possible. Following treatment people commonly experience some redness, swelling and tenderness at the injection site. Typically resolution is spontaneous, within one or two days after injection into the skin, and within a week after injection into the lips. Additionally, temporary palpable lumpiness has been noted after injection in some people.
Who will administer the treatment?
A professionally trained and experienced doctor and/or nurse will perform the treatment after a full consultation with you the client.
